|
|
I want to use ViceVersa Pro to allow a user to backup from their primary SSD to an SDHC card on their netbook. My specific concern is that the SSD and SDHC allow a limited number of total writes (they wear out). I am attempting to optimize all processes that run on the Netbook and specifically to avoid writing to the SSD or SDHC unless absolutely necessary. Vice Versa Pro is installed on the SSD and I am backing up data from the SSD to the SDHC.
I have created a RAM Disk (R:) that exists only in system (dynamic) memory that is used for temporary files (TEMP) and for IE7 temp files (Temporary Internet Files). The RAM Disk (R:) is recreated empty when the Netbook boots into Windows XP.
I could not find any documentation on what directories ViceVersa uses for temporary files. Does ViceVersa Pro use the Temp directory as defined by system and local environment variables? If not, can you tell me what directories are used so I can move those directories to the RAM Disk (R:) and avoid writing to the SSD or SDHC unnecessarily?
Do you have any additional recommendations for using ViceVersa Pro when running, backing up and writing to SSD / SDHC style media that have a limited number of total writes available? |

Hello
ViceVersa temp files are stored in the same folder where the data is copied to. You could activate the option ""Do not use a temp file ..." under profile settings -> advanced settings. Temp files are not strictly needed for backup, they are more important for synchronization.

ViceVersa already only copies changed files since last run which is useful. I guess the only additional comment would be to run backup not too frequently and not continuously.
