|
|
Is this a bug in the software, or a known issue that I am to dumb to figure out ?
Running 11 Win-2003 servers, all with open SQL databases. Each system has its own local backup array. VV is configured for backup/mirror operation.
As the SQL database files are always open, the source, file and date stamps never change. It appers the pre-copy compare, uses the raw data files of the source and target. As a result, the time & date stamps on the open files are always the same and therefore never tagged for backup. If VV is configured to use CRC compare, of course it results in an error, as you can not open an open database file for computing the CRC.
I purchased multiple copies of VV Pro-Server for the exact purpose of Mirror/backup of our Data. In earlier posts, prior to purchasing, I asked if your product could provide an exact duplicate of SBS-2003 and server-2003 drives, complete with DC, AD, Exchange, SQL, security, ownership, etc. I was told "yes", other then it did not mark the drives as bootable.
Unless I am missing the boat here, it does not appear to even backup an open SQL data file, which is listed on about every page of your site as one of VV's great benifits.... as it uses shadow copy to actually copy the file (but useless if the compare does not flag the file to actuall be copied).
I assume there is probably some bizarre work around, like creating a batch file to check the target and delete the file if it exists prior to running VV, so the compare function will never see it and therefore always tag it for backup !!!!!
But.... Come-On guys, every ad I see touts this software as easy to use and capable of backing up open database files. If I have to start writing script or batch files to accomplish this, I would not call it easy to use.
Perhaps there should be a profile option to tag files that are to be "always" copied.
How many other users out there are mistakenly under the false sense that there files are being backed-up !!
Any help or thoughts ? |

Wow, this seems like a serious issue. Has anyone else had this problem, or found a solution? |

Hello
This is a know limitation of ViceVersa PRO (currently). Right now we are working on improving this functionality. We'll release an update in the next few weeks.
thanks! _________________ --

Has this fix been implemented yet ?
I also thought VV was backing up my open SQL database files.
Will have to find a different backup solution, if not resolved soon..
Thanks |

OK, what's the story with a fix for this problem ?
Looking at the orig post, its been 3-months now that we are waiting for a fix to a problem that VV-Pro is advertised as being capable of doing !
The last entry states a beta will be ready in a couple of days, but that was about 7-weeks ago.
Thanks |
