I needed to grab a file I backed up and ran into a strange situation. I thought I was going to use the Archive Viewer to restore the file but I quickly realized that this only worked on ARCHIVED files. The file I wanted was the last backup so it wasn't an Archive copy. I went to the Backup folder and there was the file but since I have it compressing on backup it was sitting in .gz format. The only way I knew to restore it was open the .gz file in Winzip and extract. Not a huge problem for a single file but if I had to do this for a dozen or more files, then what a PITA.
Did I miss something? How do you restore the backup files when they are compressed? |

That looks very interesting and probably what I need. Looks like a little leg work up front is needed to setup the Profile but once you do, you won't have to do it again. I'll check into that. Seems like a Restore Viewer would be the best option though. I think I'm a pretty typical of most users that would be looking for that Viewer vs. setting up a new Profile. Thanks. |

I agree. Was also surprised there isn't a simple utility for this. I needed to restore a backed up file from yesterday to overwrite one that was damaged today. Would expect a simple right-click "restore" option for a .gz file. I didn't even know what to do with a .gz file until reading this post (thanks!) - was surprised that right-click copy-to-source didn't automatically expand it. |
