Vice Versa Pro v1.3.1 is creating and leaving a large number of .TMP files with names similar to ~vv3E.tmp on my source directories. What is causing this problem, and how can I stop the creation of these files?
Thanks |

~vv3E.tmp is a temp file that ViceVersa uses to copy files. The fact that these files are still in your source directory means that VV is having trouble copying files to the source directory, these files are normally deleted. What does the profile log file say? If you did not already you can setup a log file in the profile settings. _________________ --

Great feedback! While I hate to sound ignorant, how do I set the log file? The on-line documentation refers to a log check box that does not seem to appear anywhere.
Thanks |

Hi! In VV PRO 2, click on 'change profile settings' in the main window and then click on the execution tab. There you will find the log file box. _________________ --

OK, I enabled logging, and there were no error or other abnormal messages in the log. Many (too many) ~vv files were created.
My environment is as follows: VV runs on the Target, a WinXPPro notebook. The source is a shared folder on a Win2K Server. I have full admin rights on both systems, and full control on both file systems.. Whenever I run VV, a large number of these ~vv files get created on the Source. When I go to re-synchronize, VV wants to copy all these ~vv files to the Target. After several syncronizations, I have to search for and delete all the ~vv files on both systems...a royal pain to say the least.
Once again, VV v1.3.1. Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks, Garyb |

Hello!?!...On 10/14, I sent a log file as well as my registration code to support@tgrmn as requested below...To date, I have received no response. What is the latest update, as this problem is so troublesome, that I must begin to look for a replacement product.
Thanks, Gary |

Sorry Gary for this late reply.
I looked at the log file you sent.
Please perform this test:
a) Remove all ~*.tmp files from both source and target folders.
b) Perform a compare with ViceVersa.
c) Copy one file manually (right click on a file in the comparison window and copy to the other side).
d) In explorer check if in the destination folder a new tmp is created.
Those files you are seeing are created by Viceversa to copt files. They are deleted once copying is done, but apparently not in this case.
You can also switch on the option "Copy directly to destination file" in the settings, to avoid VV to use tmp files. _________________ --

I have run the test of copying files manually, 3 files from the target to the source, and in each case, an ~vv*.tmp file was created, and not deleted. This is still a problem.
What are the ramifications of setting the option "Copy directly to destination file"?
Thanks, Gary |

When VV does not use a tmp file to copy the impact is just that if a copy is interrupted the destination status remains in an 'unknown' status.
I think the problem here may be with not having permissions to delete files or rename files in the dest dir? _________________ --

As indicated in my Oct 14 posting, I have "full admin rights on both systems, and full control on both file systems". If I am getting a permission violation, why is this not reflected in the log?
Thanks, Gary |
