|
|
Hi. I'm new here. Just started using Vice Versa pro 2.0, which I've found excellent for syncing files and folders.
My question concerns the possibility of using V V to sync Firefox Bookmarks on my six networked XPP computers.
(One computer is MAIN, the others are all SUBSIDIARY. None are servers, all are running normal version of XPPro SP3)
If this isn't possible, I have Bookmark Converter, so I can convert Bookmarks to Favorites, do the sync, then convert the Favorites back to Bookmarks again.
I'm aware that Foxit has an online synchronizer for Firefox Bookmarks, but I've tried the application and found it lacking in three respects:
1) It frequently fails to spot minor additions.
2) In my opinion, the system isn't secure enough. My bookmarks frequently contain password information.
3) It's confusing to use.
A local LAN-based sync prog would be preferable, but I know of non such. Perhaps Vice Versa should get into this area
Anyway, back to my question, which is: Which V V sync method would be the best to use? Would it work with native Firefox Bookmarks or would it better to do the job in Favorites?
The material that I want to sync almost always consists of single, individual bookmark files that get added to each of the SUBSIDIARY computers during daily use.
All of the SUB machines started out with identical copies of MAIN's Bookmarks, but over time, each SUB machine picks up odd links that I'd like to periodically merge into the MAIN database.
Advice would be appreciated |

Sorry, I should have said I'm not using FFox 3 - don't like it. Currently I have 2.0.0.17. |

Hi, I think FireFox 2 is keeping each bookmark in a separate file, so you can use ViceVersa to sync them as you would do with other files. thanks _________________ --

Thanks.

OK, is it possible to compare\merge two Favorites collections? I thought that the easiest way to present two lots of Favorites for merging would be to go into Internet Explorer then File\Export and save each collection as a single .htm. But ViceVersa doesn't seem to want to recognize these 'bookmark.htm' files.
Simply comparing\merging two different Favorites folders might work, but ViceVersa apparently doesn't work on a local area network.
Anyone able to advise?
Thanks |

Hello
if the collections are files in two folders, it should be possible to sync them with ViceVersa. Is this for FireFox 2 ?

Yes, Firefox 2.0.0.20, the last of its kind
OK, if ViceVersa WOULD actually do this, the problem remains of getting the two Favorites folders together in one place, seeing that VV won't do LAN work.
And I've found before that the Favorites folder has some odd characteristics. You can do the obvious thing; copy the folder and rename the copy, but when you introduce this pseudo collection onto another machine, it seems to confuse the resident Favorites folder. Is it definitely not possible for VV to compare folders on a network? |
