|
|
I'm looking for a tool that can significantly speed up file copying in the following scenarios: (in all cases I have 4-50GB of files and 100,000 to 500,000 files in the copy --- almost all of them are TIFF files.)
1) Copy over an internal 1GB network from network drive to local drive
2) Copy from disk to USB drive
3) Copy from DVD/Blu-ray to disk on same computer
4) Copy from DVD/Blue-ray to network drive
Ideally the software will automatically be able to turn off any microsoft options that would slow the copy down.
Does ViceVersa meet these requirements? if yes, about what percentage improvement will I see on option 2) above? [I can confirm that copying 10 indivdiual 1.5GB files is 3-4 x faster than copying 200,000 fiels totalling 15 GB.
Or, in more simple terms ... can ViceVersa get close to the speed of MS Backup for copying the files but give me an identical set of folders and files on the USB drive (I drop a self executable on the drive as well so I need standard files and folders).
We know the issue is with the overhead in XP of creating the files and folders. But hopefully a smart utility can think of a way to avoid a significant % of the overhead.
By the way, all the other features of ViceVersa would be nice to have -- as long as it increases the speed of the raw copy as well.
Sorry for long explanation/question...but the limits on the dem o version would seem to preclude us performing a reasonable test ourselves. |
