I have two profiles in which I've checked 'Use "Smart" Archive' but I do not see the archive files being created anywhere? The profile is scheduled under VVEngine and I see it running regularly but still no smart archive.

What else do I need to do to get smart archiving working beyond checking the option??

Many thanks,

Mark

OK. Managed to log in now!

Just wanted to point out that I have set a directory for target archive.

Hello

You should see files in the archive folders(s) if you activated archiving in the profile settings. Did you select source and target archive folders?

thanks

Perhaps I am getting confused by the source/target folders...

My source is C:\SOURCE\ and subdirectories

My target is Z:\BACKUPS\SOURCE

The above is where I wish to store the MIRROR of current files.

And then I want to smart archive as well in

Z:\BACKUPS\SMART\SOURCE

Do I set SOURCE or TARGET directory pointing here in the archive section?

CHeers,

Mark

Hello Mark

Then you should use Z:\BACKUPS\SMART\SOURCE as your archive folder for target. This can be set under profile settings -> archiving. VV will move files there when deleting or overwriting files in the target folder.

thanks!

I still feel this isn't working, or I have something set wrong. I updated my script as directed 7 days ago and just checked my archive directory today.

Files which have changed every day since then only have a number of archived entries going back to yesterday. I would have expected, according to the description of Smart Archive to have multiple versions of those changed files including at least a file for every day since the script was installed? This profile archives my email, which I check multiple times per day, every day, so the script has been triggered many times over the past week and yet I only have archive files going back to yesterday...

Here is my profile. Do I have it set wrong or do I misunderstand how smart archiving works?

Many thanks,

Mark

Profile File: Z:\Users\Moo\My Documents\ViceVersa PRO 2\email.fsf

Folders
- Source: "[source directory for my emails]"
- Target: "Z:\Backups\ViceVersa\Mark\SNAPSHOT\EMAIL\" (Archived)
- Include Subfolders: Yes
- Exclude files: "*.lock"
- Exclude files: "popstate.dat"
- Exclude files: "panacea.dat"
Comparison
- Comparison Type: Size and Timestamp
Execution
- Method: Backup (Mirror Source to Target)
- No overwrite / read-only / error confirmations
- Log File: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ViceVersa PRO 2\email.log" (max 100 KB)
- No archive for deleted/replaced source files
- Archive deleted/replaced target files to: "Z:\Backups\ViceVersa\Mark\ARCHIVE\EMAIL\"
- Smart archive
- Copy files even if timestamp changes after initial comparison
- Use 'Volume Shadow Copy' to copy open files for source
- Verify successful file copy by checking file CRC

Hello

Does the profile log file show the e-mail file being copied to the target? The log should also contain info on which files are archived and which files are removed from the archive.

thank you

Hello

The profile settings are fine, no problem with that.
Can you please send the profile log file to support@tgrmn.com ?

I am not sure if now the log contains enough info, its max size is set to 100 KB

thanks
