I get this error message: "Error while reading Source information", when I press compare. I get it whether I use a usb stick or a folder on c:\ as target.
I tried several methods: Update and prune, augment target, refresh target.
I use Vice Versa 2.4.2 on Microsoft Vista Bunsiness.
Please help! |

Thank You
I tried what you suggested. I'm running Windows Vista though, but checked on rights and ownership and it didn't help. I do not get the problem while running Vice Versa Pro. |

Hi, I'm evaluating ViceVersa Plus on Windows 2008 Server, and I've been running into the same issue. I recognized that it was the System Volume Information folder causing the problem, but I haven't been able to successfully filter it from the compare operation. ViceVersa Pro isn't an option.
Is there a solution to this?
Thanks. |

Ah, thanks, my mistake - I clearly confused the two versions.
Thank you. |

My problem is that ViceVersa Plus (licensed version) experiences the Error while reading source information" problem. The source in question is a 2 TB WD USB3 HDD, and I have been looking at it with a Windows 7 Pro SP1 i5 desktop system purchased recently. I have read the earlier posts, which suggest that the problem could be solved by upgrading to VV Pro, so I installed that as an evaluation user. The same problem occurred.
The external drive also disappears from Windows Explorer when the problem occurs, but comes back again in a few seconds. The same USB drive worked perfectly on the old desktop computer (XP 32-bit & Pentium D), and on my recently dead ultrabook, and still works perfectly on a Thinkpad T410. I have been having problems with Windows update (which caused the drive to be invisible in Explorer (while visible in Device Manager). The drive became visible after using the Microsoft Troubleshooter for Windows update, and then successfully installing and configuring 183 updates.
