|
|
Having a problem with ViceVersa 2014 and VVEngine 1100.... the DREADED "Cannot delete ... The directory is not empty" error when excluded files exist on the target but not on the source.
We recently decided to filter certain file extensions using the file exclude filters. All of these now excluded file extensions have been being backed up for the past 12 months, so they exist in the target location on MANY of our computers. When a profile is rewritten on a computer that has already backed up one of the excluded file types we either get no action or we get an error message.
We are using the Backup (Mirror Source to Target) method.
i.e.:
File type ".xyz"
The computer has been backing up .xyz files all along using ViceVersa and VVEngine, however now the profile on this computer has an exclude filter for that file type.
Any .xyz files in the root of the target location are simply ignored, as if they weren't there.
Any directories on the target that contain .xyz files error when they ViceVersa tries to remove them with the "Can not delete folder "Z:\Backup\MyFolder. The directory is not empty". This happens when the folder on the target no longer exists on the source, and the only files in the target location for that folder are the now filtered ".xyz" files.
Is there a way around this behavior? I would think that all of these ".xyz" files would be deleted, and if a folder that no longer exists on the source, but is on the target contains these files... that ViceVersa be able to handle deleting these files and removing the folder.
Let me know...
Thanks,

Hi, we need to add an option to ViceVersa for this. Right now the excluded files in the target are ignored and can cause the "non-empty" folder issue. We need to add an option to delete excluded files from target... thanks _________________ --

Hi, thanks for the info.
Do you have a timetable on when this feature might be available?
I suppose in the short term I can have the wisescript package that is re-writing the profiles on all of our computers delete any of these file types as part of the automated creation of the new profile, however this is not ideal.
Let me know...
Thanks,

Hi, we plan to add this feature in the next release of ViceVersa PRO, but I do not have an exact date for it yet, sorry! _________________ --

That's ok, was just checking I'll look for it in the next release, and make do until then.
Thanks! |

Yes, there were some improvements made where if a folder only contains excluded files then the whole folder is excluded (which avoids the folder is not empty message). But the ability to delete excluded target files was not added. Are you getting this error message? Are the file excluded from target? thanks _________________ --

If a folder is renamed in the source, then the old folder still shows up in the backup, with files in it and can't get deleted |

Yes, if the target folder has excluded files, the "The directory is not empty" error message can happen, however I think the latest VV PRO 2.5 build 2510 fixes this issue. thanks _________________ --
