|
|
I have a large desktop with a USB external hard drive attached, plus a networked laptop and 2 more desktops. I had a small Maxtor external drive that met most of my needs, but have outgrown it.
I need a software solution that will do the following:
1) At a specific time each day, look at files in specific directories and synch them so that all 4 machines are working with the exact same data.
2) At a specific time each day, copy, in it's native file format, the synched files to the external hard drive.
3) MAKE THE ABOVE DESCRIBED COPY TO THE EXTERNAL DRIVE IN THE ORIGINAL NATIVE FILE FORMAT, NOT A BACKUP FILE FORMAT. So if I want to take this external drive to an off-site location, I have "plain old" files on the external disk that I can use like a giant "flash" drive.
4) Support long file and path names. I am very organized (read "an*l retentive) and store my files in folders within folders within folders, etc.
5) Allow me to specifiy whatever files and folders I want to be part of the above process, regardless of whether the folder/files have hidden or other "non-standard" attributes.
It doesn't sound all that complex, at least to me, but I'll be darned if I can find software that will meet these needs.
If VV will, I'll buy it instantly!!
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
