Hello,
I just recently took over the role of backing up our servers, and something appears to be misbehaving. I apologize about the length of the lines, but we deal with fairly long file paths (which don't appear to be the problem here). Here is an excerpt from the log file:
2008-04-09 22:56:06 : Initializing Volume Shadow Copy DLL ...
2008-04-09 22:56:06 : Creating Volume Shadow Copy for D: ... Done. Volume Shadow Copy is at \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy11
2008-04-09 22:57:22 : Copying file \\?\D:\Soup\Data\Project Files\Jobs_for_2007\Management Information System\CAP Paint FIS\Post Delivery Doc\Customer Supplied Data\Electrical Schematics\Ford CAP PS FIS Electrical Drawings 09_12_07\CAD Drawings\Behr Prime Ford Chicago 1299\Electrical Training Manual\00_ELE~1.PDF <to> \\?\UNC\ice\Soup\Data\Project Files\Jobs_for_2007\Management Information System\CAP Paint FIS\Post Delivery Doc\Customer Supplied Data\Electrical Schematics\Ford CAP PS FIS Electrical Drawings 09_12_07\CAD Drawings\Behr Prime Ford Chicago 1299\Electrical Training Manual\00_ELE~1.PDF (5.22KB) [Can not open "\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy11\Soup\Data\Project Files\Jobs_for_2007\Management Information System\CAP Paint FIS\Post Delivery Doc\Customer Supplied Data\Electrical Schematics\Ford CAP PS FIS Electrical Drawings 09_12_07\CAD Drawings\Behr Prime Ford Chicago 1299\Electrical Train00_ELE~1.PDF". The system cannot find the file specified.] [ERROR].

There are ~50 other files that I'm recieving this error on. The file that it's looking for doesn't exist on the source, but I was under the impression that VV would recognize that it has changed, delete the files on the target, and replicate the source files on to the target. Am I missing something here? We are getting an exit code 3, and I'd if at all possible for it to be a 0 instead |

Hello, could it be that the files did exist when ViceVersa started scanning, but they were deleted before ViceVersa started the file copy? thanks _________________ --

This does not appear to be the case, as the error occurs on the same files for both yesterday and today. Also, the mirroring is taking place around midnight, when we have no active users. Any other ideas? |

Another idea. The file name Electrical Train00_ELE~1.PDF looks like an abbreviation.... is there another file with the same name in the same directory or with a similar name? thanks _________________ --

Our server, SOUP, won't let me navigate to the file via explorer; when I looked at the path, it was truncated at the end and I couldn't add to it. I think it's somewhere around a 256 character limit, but I'm not sure exactly. In response to your question, they are not abbreviations, and there are similar files such as 01_990~1.pdf and 02_990~1.pdf; however, I'm fairly sure that it is related to the path length.
Our VV transfer looks like:
\\?\D:\Soup\Data\ to \\?\UNC\ice\Soup\Data\
Is that the correct syntax? |

Is there any utility you know of that would help me determine the path length? There's a bit too much data for me to manually go through it- something like 500Gb |
