|

My needs are simple: copying portions of one hard drive to another for safety. But many of the copy options seem to include steps that delete files and this is a disaster! I have years of tax records, etc and NEVER want to delete a file, any time, any place. Ever!
Is there a warning or option or default or something that tells me that a profile [program] as set will result in deleted files? |

Hello robertpr,
This is a very common situation: having a 'master' folder where files are never to be changed or deleted, no matter what settings.
ViceVersa PRO provides the following options safety checks:
a) If you open a profile in ViceVersa PRO, after the initial comparison you can click on 'Preview' which shows how files are copied / deleted.
b) Assuming that the files you never want to delete are in source, only 'synchronization' and 'consolidation' methods may update / delete files in source. All other methods would never modify anything in source.
c) Maybe the best option: lock the source (or the target depending on where your 'golden' files are). You can lock source and/or target by clicking on the lock icon in the profile settings, under the 'folders' section. Once a folder is "locked" ViceVersa will never delete or overwrite files in that folder. This is useful to prevent accidental deletion while operating ViceVersa. For example, when you are replicating a folder from A to B and you know that files in A should never be changed, you should lock folder A: this prevents ViceVersa from ever changing, deleting or overwriting files in the locked folder, even if you accidentally instruct it to do so. _________________ --
