Do I need more ram to complete Vice Versa on my file servers? Because of the error shown here. Currently running Server 03 Enterprise with 4 gigs of ram. If I upped the Ram to 6 gigs would this help my problem. I was very close to finish the current operation I would say it was about 90% finished on comparing the data and then copy data from Source to Target.
Would it be better to even doubling the Ram from 4 gigs to 8 gigs? Because my files are only going to grow over time. |

Hello, each ViceVersa profile can handle approx 1 million files. Are you able to split the job into multiple profiles? thanks _________________ --

Well what my Vice Versa does is Backup Source to Target of my iSCSI boxes which keeps my 30 days of backup files from 15 servers. So I have 15 folders for each server on the root of iSCSI X: drive (Source) to Y: drive (Target). Now I can't choose more than one folder to Backup. But I can backup one whole drive which I am exceeding 1 million load on. So here is my dilemma. I really don't want to create 15 profiles because I would need to stager them so they are not overlapping with each other and also overlapping during backups of the servers to iSCSI boxes. How else could I complete this problem? Also would it be OK to run multi tasks of Vice Versa at the same time? Should I stager them 15mins or 30mins apart? I am under a time frame during night hours. All the severs are running Differentail backups M,T,W,Th and Full F so I can run Saterday afternoon on VV but what about the other days of the week.
Your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks |

Config:
Windows 2008 Std Ed X64, 12Gb RAM, dual Xeon quad-core E5440 + MSA2012fc
Problem:
We try to use VV to backup files from one HD to another one (same size). The comparaison works well, but when VV start to delete the old files on the target HD, it starts to consume more and more memory up to the point it consume all the memory and we have to hard reboot our server.
Volume of datas:
1.5 mio files, 230Gb.
This never happened on a x86 version (Win 2000 and 2003). We had a server with the same application ht we migrated to this new Win2K8 x64, VV worked well, but not anymore on this new server who is far more powerfull (+8Gb, 2 quad Intel, dedicated MSA2000 for the storage).
It would be really nice to get a fix for this important issue. |

Hello
few questions:
- Is the option "Use Recycle Bin when deleting" (under main menu -> view -> preferences) activated?
- Do you still see the same memory problem if this option is not activated?
- Are you using the latest build 2015
- Type of source and target drives?

Yes the option is checked.
About drives:
- Source: SAS 15K RPM on SAN. 900GB
- Target: SATA 7.2K RPM on SAN, 900GB
(All drives are using NTFS)
Version:
- 2015, x64
Strange thing:
If I use exactly the same profile but I backup trought the network to another server, there is not any problem appearing. The problem alway comes when I try to backup HD to HD on the same server. Even if I only select for example, sub-folders begining with "a" ( D:\folder\a*\) and I got only 100'000 files and folders this problem comes. It starts after the comparaison process, exactly when it start to delete files! YOu can see the 8 logical CPUs consuming 100% of power and in less than 15 minutes the 12Gb of RAM are filled and at that time the system has to be hard rebooted... I tried to change the size of the buffer, the speed, almost everything, but actually not the option you indeicated. After this post, I'll try and I'll let you know what happened.
Thanks for your support. |

Hello, was the switching off of the option "Use Recycle Bin when deleting" (under main menu -> view -> preferences) that solved the memeory problem ? _________________ --
