When starting a ViceVersa Pro compare, I often get this msg,

"Unable to open tracking database "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ViceVersa PRO 2\vvdb1.tbd” for reading and writing. Aborting comparison. Check the tracking database path in the profile settings."

The ViceVersa Pro view profile settings window reports:- Tracking Database: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ViceVersa PRO 2\vvdb1.tdb"

Used Windows Explorer to view database file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ViceVersa PRO 2\vvdb1.tdb. It exists and appears normal. It is not write protected.

I do have a scheduled backup which will run win computer is idle.

Thank you for your help.

Check file permissions and folder permissions, do they allow full access?
Afre you sharing the same tbd file across two profiles?
thanks

I went the properties/security/advanced/Permissions tab for vvdb1.tbd file. Here is the data:

System and Administrators have full control.
Power Users have permission to modify.
Users have permission to read & execute.

I am always logged on as an administrator.

I used the view profile settings window to check the other profiles, only one of which is in actual use. They all use different tracking database files.

Strange that you mention that it does not happen always. If it was a file permission issue it would happen always. Confused

Yes, it is true that it does not always happen, as I reported in my first email.

And yes, I also agree that file permissions seem to be set properly.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi,

I had this problem too. Could it be possible, that a virusscanner is locking the db?

Strange - it's just happened to me after using the program for many months without ever seeing this issue before. It worked perfectly yesterday, so something has happened overnight. I have not made any changes to my system in that time.

Any thoughts forum members?

I have vice versa configured to do a scheduled sync when the computer is idle.

Could this intermittent problem occur when the user manually initiates a sync while a scheduled sync is already in progress?

Any thoughts on this trgmn or others?

Hi, the most common causes for this error are:

1) the same tracking database is shared across two different profiles which are running at the same time (the second profile will find that the database is already in use by the first one). --> solution is not to share the tracking db.

2) the same profile with tracking database is running twice at the same time --> solution is not to run the same profile twice at the same time if it uses a trcking db

3) file permissions on the tracking database restrict access to the account running ViceVersa --> solution: check file permissions.

Note that the tracking db is only required for the synchronization method, any other method do not need a tracking db.
thanks

The fastest solution for the "Unable to open tracking database ..." problem is to un-install ViceVersa Pro and to re-install it.
