here's what's happening:

I have 10 drives connected to my computer...and I mirror from 5 to the other 5...this works fine until I power off one of the target drives. Then, on occasion, the drive letter changes when its powered back on.

When this happens, VV doesn't recognize that the NAME of the target drive is not correct, instead it only looks at the drive letter, therefore, it duplicates onto the wrong target drive.

Example: 2007 data A (D) and 2007 data B (Q) are the drives I back up (A always goes to B). When I power off data b and then turn it back on, the assigned drive letter of Q occasionally changes (don't know why). Is that normal?

Then, when VV runs, it backs up the contents of A to whatever drive now has letter Q: even though the drive NAME is incorrect (let's say 2006 data)...and all the 2006 data on that drive is now overwritten!

Is there any way to specify that the root drive letter AND name must match before proceeding? Is there any way to specify that the target ROOT folder NEVER be created? Both would solve this issue and act as a safety check on a thorny problem.

There is an option to "create source/target folders if they do not exist" but there is no help regarding that check box so have no idea if it's related to this issue or not.
thanks, John.

Hi, maybe you can try assigning to each drive a unique and constant letter, see http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item42.htm
thanks
