I'm trying to backup my laptop's HDD to an empty HDD in my desktop. However, when I try to do it, it goes so slow that nothing really gets done. It copies one file after another, but small files each take like 1 second. All in all, it estimates it to take about 80,000 hours to complete... obviously I'm missing something.
I'm backing up over a Wireless-G network (Linksys router) to a shared (hidden) HDD on my desktop PC. HELP! |

My guess would be that your network is slow. Take a look at the connection quality of your wireless. The weaker the signal, the slower the transmission rate. Also, it's hard to say what happens if the signal is temporarily lost.
While it might not be as convenient, try connecting your laptop to your router or switch with an ethernet cable, turn off the wireless on your laptop, and see what happens.
