Hi!
We have our Laptop-users workong in "My Documents" in the local profile and syncronize it with their home directory on the server.
We use the <usename> variable in the path to source and target. I would like to use the <username> variable in the vvlauncer.ini file to point to the database file. I would like to put the databse file in the Default User\application data so that every new user gets an empty database file and that the vvlauncher.ini points to the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Applivation Data\VVxxx
I wont that because if our users profile craches and we have to create a new we have to remeber to copy an new empty databasefile to the laptop. If we donīt do that the databasefile tells that the files are the same on both sides but its not because the "My Doccuments" in the local profile is empty and then VV thinks we deleted thos files and then it empties the homdirectory too. Thats BAD.
Is that possible to fix?
We are thinking of using your product on 150 laptops so...

Hi, there are a couple of points I am not clear on... please clarify before I try to help.

- "database file" is the tracking database in the profile settings?
- what do you mean by "our user's profile craches and we have to create a new one". Do you create an empty source folder in case a laptop crashes?

thanks! Smile

Hi!
- "database file" is the tracking database in the profile settings?
Yes i talk about the tracking database.
And i meen IF a users profile on the xp laptop craches and we have to create a new profile for the user. Then the MY Documents, (that we are using as their local homedirectory and witch we are syncronizeing with ther homdirectory on the server), is emptey. If i would run the vvlauncher it would delet all files on the homedirectory on the server because the "My Documents" on the local laptop is empty. But if i copie an empty tracking database then it would copy the files down again.

-Do you create an empty source folder in case a laptop crashes?
No! I meen if the vvlauncher runs by mistake it happens. I tried it when i was testing the vvlauncher and i was a senario that i wouldīnt want to happen.

Hi, unfortunately the tracking database does not support variables!
One thing thought: ViceVersa does not delete all files in the target if the source is completely empty (it is a security measure). Did you try that? thanks

One other thing: for extra security you could setup an archive folder for the target. So if the files are deleted from the target, they are actually moved to the archive folder and can be restored in an emergency...

Hi!
Her is my log file. This logfiel is for a user that got an new windows xp profile and logs in att the same compurer where the trckingdatabse has been uesd by this user on the old windows xp profile.
When the vv launcher starts up it delet all files in the directory of the server because the directory on the soure is empty. It is empty because the source path is "My documents" in the C:\documents and settnings\username\my documents and the new windows xp profile is new.
This is something that can happen by misstake and i want to be shore it canīt happen.

I think the issue is that the target is not completely empty, looking at the log:

Code:
2007-10-22 11:32:01 : - Updated Files - Source: 0 (0) - Target: 6 (645B)

and then

Code:
2007-10-22 11:32:01 : - Matched Files - Source: 6 (645B) - Target: 6 (645B)

Looks like there are 6 files still in target .... which files are these?

thanks

Hi, I think the 2 excluded folders are shown here:

Code:
2007-10-22 11:32:01 : - Excluded Subfolders - Source: 2 - Target: 2

but there is also some files that are not excluded

Code:
2007-10-22 11:32:01 : - Matched Files - Source: 6 (645B) - Target: 6 (645B)

Maybe these are desktop.ini and thumbs.db files?
Or did you exclude those?

thanks
