Hello:
I am having trouble synchronizing and backing up files and folders that have a dash or minus character in the filename. Viceversa thinks they are different files even though the timestamp and crc are identical. I suspect this is a problem that has already been solved but I can't find this on the forum or in the KB.
Thanks

Hello, sorry I do not understand the issue what do you mean by "Viceversa thinks they are different files "? thanks! _________________ --

Sorry for not being clear earlier. I looked in more detail at the files that I am having problems with and noticed that I had duplicate copies of some files on the source. The only difference between the files on source was that one copy would use a dash and one a minus sign as below:
Moffatt - Head seat belt - 1997.pdf
Moffatt – Head seat belt - 1997.pdf
My target is a samba server and I believe that on earlier runs of vice versa the original files with dashes were copied to the target with minus signs and then on subsequent runs the minus signs were copied back to the source. It was never possible to reproduce the original files with the dash on the target drive so I saw the filenames with the dash as new files on source every time I ran vice versa. This meant copying a few gigabytes with every synchronization which was confusing me. I have finally had time to look in detail at the situation and I have now deleted all files with dashes in the filename from source.
This fixed my issue. I don't know if any of your other users have every had this problem but I hope that this will help anyone who runs into this ins the future.
