I was looking for some good synchronization software and finally found ViceVersa. Everything sounds great, but I have one question:
I want to mirror a 30GB disk, which I copied manually first, over a 128k VPN line, which of course is very slow.
Can ViceVersa handle this?
Thanks in advance for telling me your opinion,

Thanks for answering that fast!
No, there is a misunderstanding. I manually copy 30GB from one server to a disk on another location. These 2 sites are connected via 128k VPN-line.
Now I would like to use ViceVersa for mirroring these disks over this 128k VPN line (via mapping network drives).
Is this possible? Do you maybe have some experiences?

Well I can tell you about my experience. We are using ViceVersa to do a one-way replication over a 768k/768k non-dedicated line. The initial replication moved about 1.5GB and took about 2 days to complete. Since the baseline was established we only move about 5 - 10MB a day and it takes under 5 minutes. So it really depends how much data will be changing on a daily basis. We also found that file size affects transfer rate. Larger files would transfer at around 60Kbps but a batch of smaller files would drop the speed to 5Kbps. It's really best, in my opinion, to install the ViceVersa trial and test it in your own environment. |
