Bear with me, once I get my head around this I'll stop posting!
Scenario: Two PCs both set to Synch with a NAS Drive using the Syncronization method. The intention being that all three devices have the same data at as near to the same time as practical. The PCs have each have identical profiles and identical folder structure. The two profiles are A. Synch all Document, Downloads and Favorites to the NAS (I will run this automatically via VV Launcer) and B. Synch all Music, Pictures and Videos to the NAS Drive (I will run this manually occasionally)
Query 1: Because I have two profiles, each time I run either profile, the system wants to reset the tracking database because it recognises the different profiles is this OK?
Query 2: On PC1 the PC is the source and the NAS is the Target, if I am tidying up the folders on the source that are going to be synched ie moving files from one folder to another, then once I have synched the target is the same which is great!!
However suppose I then run the same synch. on PC2 where I have not tidied up the folders (however I do want the folders on PC2 to reflect what has happened with the PC1 synch.). PC2 is also set up as a source and the NAS is the target. If I attempt a synch from PC2 will this undo my tidying up as the file structure on PC2 (the source) will tell the NAS (the target) to change to reflect PC2's current structure?? I hope you get this Im having difficulty following and I'm writing it
All help gratefully received.

No, each profile needs to have a different tracking database. This is very important.

When you sync PC2, VV will "see" that the NAS structure was re-arranged (because of the sync with PC1) and so will re-arrange the files on PC2 to match the NAS. The tracking database tells ViceVersa what was the situation of all files before and so VV knows what was changed.

Thanks for your help.
Q1 How do I tell VV to produce a different database for each profile?
Q2 In the scenario I have, will I need to make PC1 the source and the NAS the target? AND PC2 the target and the NAS the source or is it irrelevent?

Hi

Usually, when you activate the tracking database, VV PRO will select a unique name anyway, but you can check the db name in the profile settings->execution and make them unique manually if needed (whatever name you would like to use)

It is irrelevant, but you could use the source for the PCs and the target for the NAS

Apologies but:
On PC1 I create a profole and an associate tracking database. On PC2 I create the what essentially is the same profile as PC1, do I use the same database that PC1 profile points to or do I create a separate dbase for PC2 profile? |

No problem

You can use the same path, they will point to separate tracking dbs, e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ViceVersa PRO 2\vvdb1.tdb
for both PCs. _________________ --

Sorry, I'm being thick here.
I keep ALL the tracking databases on the NAS Drive in a folder call VV Pro 2 Database.
At the moment for PC1 I have two profiles and two respective tracking databases. When I set up PC2 I will also have two profiles fundamentally the same as PC1.
Should PC2 profiles share PC1's databases or have their own? |

Hi, they should have their own database.
Each profile should have its own database.
