Do I understand correctly (from searching the forum) that Outlook 2000 is NOT VSS compatible and therefore is the reason I'm getting:

Creating Volume Shadow Copy for D: ... Done. Volume Shadow Copy is at \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy34
Copying file D:\Users\PaoloC\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost <to> E:\VV Backup\Users\PaoloC\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost (293.56MB) [Can not open "\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy34\Users\PaoloC\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost". The system cannot find the file specified.] [ERROR].

If this is the case, are any later versions of outlook VSS compatible?

TIA,
Paolo

Windows 2000 is not VSS compatible, but Outlook 2000 should be if run over XP or 2003 or Vista. Are you getting that error message only for that file? thanks

Yes only the OST file.

Thanx for the speedy response.

NTFS (35Gb) (a Primary partition - FWIW) Local disk, 21Gb free. The OST file is about 300Mb

Strange... maybe due to file permissions?

I wasn't the owner - the Administrators Group was (of which I'm part). I took direct ownership - but still no go.

Also, the permissions were grayed out - so I couldn't change them. I'm not familiar enough with Vista to comment - but it seems strange.

Hi, on Vista try running ViceVersa PRO using "Run as Administrator...."

- Locate the ViceVersa application icon or short cut and right click on it
- From the menu select the "Run As Administrator" option

does it work using this option?
thanks

Here's a work around...

The copy fails if the file extension is .ost, it works if not... Wink

Go Figure Surprised Rolling Eyes

Any ideas why?

The plot thickens...

The .ost files are NOT copied (apparently) ONLY if they are in the ...\Outlook folder!

If I move the same file to another place it copies fine!

Sheesh! Rolling Eyes

Windows Vista does not include OST files in the Volume Shadow Copies, see http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item75.htm for more info, thanks

Thanks for that guys!

What's interesting, is that the check still holds even if Outlook is NOT running and therefore NOT churning the file! A "hack and hope" job, if I ever saw one!

I can copy the .OST fine without shadow copy so I'll have a separate profile for that...
