Day 23 of 30 evaluating, software is operating great, just one glitch noticed:
Attempting to run v.v. I get the following error:
[Can not copy NTFS Additional File Streams of file "xxxx". You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again.] [ERROR]
This error is misleading; the problem exists with a file on an NTFS share (BTW, both the target and source are on the same drive, on the local computer where v.v. is exectuing).
The problem arises when someone with access to the share extracts a file from a zip file and overwrites that file (the source file being overwritten is identical). The problem is that the computer had the time zone incorrectly set, so the original has a date/time of 9/7/2007 4:52 PM (which is in the mirrored target already), however when extracted from the archive on this particular computer, the date/time changes to 9/7/2007 5:52 PM, a one hour difference.
v.v. performs the checks and determines that this source file is newer and needs to be updated, however in the procsess of copying the file, it produces this error. If I change the date/time of the source file (manually edit and save) the copy goes ahead without any issue. |

Hello, it sounds like an issue with the Additional File Streams for that file.
You can check the Additional File Streams of the file using this tool:
http://www.rekenwonder.com/streamexplorer.htm
I suspect that if you change the timestamp to a matching time, VV won't even try to copy the file, hence you do not get the error....
Let us know, thanks _________________ --

The timestamp is not really what I was concerned about, it was the failure it was reporting back. Under most circumstances this would not happen, however it could still happen when a file on the source is updated/added, etc. and then needs to be mirrored to the target.
Here is what is strange though, after talking to the person who uses this field computer, it was determined that after this file is opened by a communications program called ProComm Plus ( Version 4.8 ), the VV method of copying the file will always fail with this error. This software was written for Windows95 and therefore unlikely it would make use of additional file streams (BTW the computer it is running on is Win2K).
The StreamExplorer application does not show any out of the ordinary streams (I'm guessing as other files show similar streams). When the file is fresh and untouched (on the source) it shows 2 streams <default> (the file) and a <no name> with a key icon. Backing up when the file is like this works properly. After opened by Procomm, the file has a 3rd stream, <no name> with an ID and 3 boxes icon (looks like object hierarchy icon). At this point, the file cannot be backed up.
Other files opened by this application are fine.
Even after the application is closed, this failure will occur.
Even copying over this file with another copy fails (note, the file still has 3 streams)
Editing the file appears to remove the third stream, this can then be backed up.
Any further ideas? |

It seems like it is this extra stream that causes the copy error.
You could switch off copying additional data streams entirely in the profiles settings->Advanced settings->details
Could you send us (support@tgrmn.com) a screenshot showing this extra 3rd stream and all the other streams present so I can try to recreate it on my machine?
thank you _________________ --
