I synchronize data between my main desktop and a portable hard drive which I take on the road with me. Is it possible to set VV to encrypt the data in the target portable drive but not the main desktop? |

(more info) I tried to Change the profile settings to set the target to Encrupt but when VV does the Comparison, I receive the error message:
"[file path]...in target (encrypted) does not have the required extension ".enc". Please delete or move the file using Windows Explorer. Aborting Comparison"
Could this be because I've installed VV on the main desktop and not the portable drive? |

If a folder (source or target) is set as encrypted in a profile, Viceversa expects any file already present in that folder to be encrypted. The error you are seeing is due to files that are already in the folder but not encrypted. The best is to start with an empty folder when activating encryption. _________________ --

I've synchronized and encrypted target files to a portable hard drive. I bring the portable drive with me to another office and want to open the files on a computer that's not the same as the source computer. What do I need to do to un-encrypt the files so I can open them? |

Hi, you will need to install VV on the target computer to decrypt the encrypted files. Then you setup a profile with as source the folder where you want to copy the files to and as target the encrypted USB drive folder. _________________ --

Thanks for your reply.
I don't want to leave anything on the non-source computer. Is there any way I can open the encrypted files without installing Vice Versa in the non-source computer? For example, can I install VV on the portable drive so that it will decrypt/open the encrypted files on the portable drive, allow me to work on the files and create new ones, save them (encrypted?), then sync them to the source computer when I return to home base? |

Yes, you could put the executable ViceVersa.exe on the USB drive and then launch it from there. But you will get the 30 days trial notice, because ViceVersa is not registered on that computer. _________________ --

You will need a password to decrypt files encrypted by ViceVersa.... without password the files cannot be decrypted! _________________ --
