|

I configured VV to synchronize the My Documents folder to a location on our server. After checking the folders, I find that the majority of both the source and target folders are empty.
I've used VV on numerous PCs with exactly the same settings, yet with 3 PCs, the folders have been emptied.
Any constructive feedback would be appreciated. |

I have the viceversa-errors.txt file, which shows when the files were removed from the target. VV erroneously reported during its scan that there were no files in the target, except for the files that were open on the machine (email .pst files). So, it removed all the other files in the source.
We've implemented VV in several remote offices and have not had this issue. In the main office, we've had this faulty synchronization happen on three laptops, deleting files from both the source and target. |

I think the issue is with the network that reported "no files" in the folder, but some files were indeed present... what network configuration are you working with? thanks _________________ --

We're working with Windows 2003 and Active Directory. Here's the implementation process:
1. Network Administrator create a network folder to store the files to be synched inside the user's home folder.
2. Admin then goes to the PC to be synched and loads and configures a profile to synchronize files from the user's My Documents folder and sets the profile to run every 60 minutes and at shutdown.
3. Admin then uses the VV profile to copy files to the network folder.
Later on, during a VVScheduled run, VV reports that no files exist in the folder and deletes the local copies of the folders.
That is the gist of what has occurred on three separate occasions.
What is troubling is that the log shows that VV doesn't see the files on the network. And, in reality, they aren't there.
Is there any way that VV can show that it has copied files but in reality has not? In some cases, we have a Windows Shadow Copy of the files (Shadow Copy runs once every 3 hours). In some cases, we have the folders, but not the files inside. |

Hi, can you setup a log file for the profile (see profile settings>execution). The profile log will show exactly what ViceVersa "sees". What is strange is that ViceVersa has an internal security mechanism which stops synchronization if source and/or target are reported completely empty. Could you please also post the .fsf file you are using? thanks _________________ --

None of my business.... but
If you have an AD env, why not set up Home folders for each user (via the profile tab for the user in AD). This creates a network share for that specific user. Then you can map the My Docs folder to it (or any folder) and use offline synchronization (the built-in Windows tool).
I'm doing that at my company, I'm curious what you want from VV specifically in this case, throttling maybe? |
