We are also having an insufficient resources issue. We are copying a single 93gb file, and have more enough HDD space both on the destination volume, and the volume where temp files are created.

THe problem seems to occur about halfway through the copy.

Is there a solution to this?

Its not operating across a network (i.e. both drives are local).

The source drive is internal on SATA, the destination driveis external on USB2.

It could be an issue with one of the two drives. I suggest you to run a full disk check, using chkdsk on both drives.

I have similar problems. I back up to an external hard drive connected through Firewire. I tested my internal and external drives. It does not appear to be a hardware issue. I even tried running chkdsk on all drives.

This problem only happens with large backups/synchronizations when using CRC. It happens after 10's of gigabytes have been CRC checked. Unfortunately, the main reason I bought this software was because I like to use the CRC check feature both during comparison and during copying of files.

This problem is very easily reproducible so it should not be too hard to fix. It appears that resources are not being properly freed after performing CRC. I would even offer to help fix this problem but I doubt I would get access to the source code. Smile

I just updated the software to ViceVersa Pro 2 Build 2015 and it still has the same issue.

I hope this issue can be fixed in a future build soon. The workaround (splitting into many smaller backups) is highly undesirable.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

It appears that the problem happens when CRC check is done on large files. In my case, errors occur when comparing or copying one gigabyte files or at least files that are hundreds of megabytes.

One way to reproduce this problem is by creating two folders: "source" and "target". These folders can even be in the same hard drive partition. Copy some DVD movies into these folders so that they contain the same folders and files. Make sure you have at least 40 GB of data in each folder and perform CRC comparison (you might need more than 40 GB depending on your system and what other programs you are running on it). This will produce an error such as:

[ERROR] ERROR: some data from file "D:\Movies\Fushigi Yuugi Season 1\Fushigi Yuugi 21-26\VTS_01_6.VOB" could not be read. File may be in use by another application, it may be incorrectly stored on media or, if compressed/encrypted, it may contain errors. File will be excluded from comparison/execution.

Another way is to create a folder with copies of some DVD movies (you could even copy the same movie over and over). Then, do a backup to an empty folder with CRC verification. This usually produces the "Insufficient system resources..." error message or sometimes you get the error above first.

so far I have compared CRC values for 2 folders, each with 2 8GB matching files (16 GB in total). It did not give any errors. Resource utilization is normal. I'll try with larger files. Do you get errors with 8GB files?

Usually, it took at least 30 GB before failure (rarely less than that). Also, I think it has to do the CRC of several large files before the failure occurs.

8 GB files might not show the same problem. Windows XP 32-bit only allows 2 GB per process (3GB if an option is turned on during boot up). Therefore, 1 GB files can be fully loaded into memory for speed. 8 GB files might go through a different code since they have to be loaded part by part into memory for processing. Probably, these problems might go away with a 64-bit OS.

ViceVersa never loads the whole file into memory. Even when opening huge files, it only uses a small amount of memory. I'll try with larger files, but I do not expect to see the error you are seeing. I am testing with XP SP3 32-bit.

Hello

I tried copying and calculaitng CRC values for 2 files, 50GB each. I am unable to reproduce the issue you are seeing. The 2 files were on internal hard-disks.

Maybe you could try using ProcessExplorer to check resources used by ViceVersa or other programs: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

In my tests , ViceVersa would not use a lot of memory and the file size did not change the amount of memory used.
