File Encryption

You can instruct ViceVersa PRO to keep files in Source and/or Target encrypted (and compressed). ViceVersa PRO provides AES-256 encryption.

This feature is especially important when copying files to an external USB drive or over the Internet.

For example, if you are using ViceVersa PRO to backup files to a portable USB drive, you can make use of the file encryption feature to keep all the files on the USB drive encrypted.

Are the files directly encrypted or is the encryption accomplished by adding them to a zip file?
TGRMN Software -  04-Oct-11
The files are directly and separately encrypted, they are not added to a zip archive.

To transfer encrypted files between two computers, does the target machine also need VVpro to de-encrypt the files encrypted by the source? If not, how are the files opened?
TGRMN Software -  26-Oct-14
When encryption is activated for target folder, ViceVersa will copy the files from source to target and will keep them encrypted in the target (e.g. files are stored on the target with extension .enc). If you want then to decrypt them on the target, you should run another profile on the target machine that decrypts the files.

If you have an un-encrypted backup that you need to encrypt, will ViceVersa do this or should a user clear down all previous folders / files from the target drive?
TGRMN Software -  18-Jan-16
To encrypt the files, all the files will need to be copied again.

Is setting up a new profile the only way to recover and decrypt a file (files) back to the source drive from the encrypted files on the target drive?
TGRMN Software -  10-May-17
Yes, that is the only way, that is, decryption using ViceVersa and using the same password.

If you have the Source folder ticked for encryption, and the Destination folder NOT ticked, are the files transferred encrypted or decrypted?
TGRMN Software -  28-Jun-18
In that case the files are decrypted when copied from source to target and encrypted if copied from target to source.

Does ViceVersa PRO encrypt file in source folder before sending it to target, or is it just sending the original file completely and after that start to encrypt the file on target machine?
TGRMN Software -  28-Oct-18
If file encryption for source or target is enabled, ViceVersa will first encrypt the file and then copy it to the source/target.
