ViceVersa works fine when copying files from my workstation to WHS share (Or appears to anyway) However when copying files back from the WHS machine to the workstation with ViceVersa all files copied are not accessible by the system once copied.
If I copy the files manually from the WHS machine they are all right.
Has anyone else noticed this? |

I think I might have a similar problem synchronising between WHS and a Vista Business Laptop.
Like you copying files manually works fine.
I have tried deleting files that have been copied from WHS by VVPRo and that I cannot access.
When I try this I get the following error message
'Error 0-x80070780: The file cannot be accessed by the system'
Does this occur for you too?

Hello, did you check the file permissions for those files? Maybe it is a problem with file permissions. thanks, _________________ --

I'm not sure which permissions you mean. I used VVP to copy the files to the Home Server in teh same way as I use it to copy files to a win2003 server. The files are accessible on the servers and if I copy them back via windows to the originating PC the files are fine.
However if I copy them from the home server back to the original PC with VVP I get this error..
Cannot access (file name) The file can not be accessed by the system.
I have tried setting permissions on the server for the files to 'Everyone Full Access' to no avail. I've tried telling VVP to Copy permissions and to not copy permissions again to no avail.
But copying from the win2003 server in the same manner the files are ok. |

more info...
I'm logged into the client PC with admin rights. 'Use simple file sharing' is switched off, so I should get a security tab on each file in properties, which I do... except for those files copied from WHS via VVP. |

More info...
If I try to open files using notepad I get the message 'The file cannot be accessed by the system"
If I use other software Windows Media Player, MindManager, Execel etc - I get different messages usually about file corruption - but the message varies depending on the software used.
I've checked file permissions on my client machine (my login also has admin rights - like you slockey), and unlike you Slockey I DO get the security tab on each file in properties, AND I am listed as having full permission, along with the adminstrators group and 'system'.
However if I try to edit my permissions (by clicking the edit button), I am told that "you don't have permission to view this object's security properties...."etc - and I am invited to try taking ownershp of the object.
Confusingly, below this statement, in the box entitled 'Current owner' it this me as the current owner!
I don't know much about file permissions so please let me know what else I might do to shed some light on this problem.
Thanks. |

I'm having the same issues.
I've tried with several folders. At first I thought it just might have something to do with accessing a user share on WHS. But, I also created a temp share with full access to everyone (including guest account). I get the same problems no matter what I do.
I can't really wrap my brain around how this is the problem, but maybe the KB discussed in this link could be the related...

Thanks for the info...
In the thread I read "not to copy data files that contain alternate [NTFS] data streams to Windows Home Server shared folders.”
Wonder if that is the issue. ViceVersa, by default, does copy file data streams. This can be disabled in the profile settings -> advanced settings -> details -> do not copy file /folder data streams

That's the ticket!
Thanks for the quick response.
I'll try and take a look at the directory and see what ADS streams WHS attaches to files. This actually makes perfect sense considering how they implement their file system. |

Switching off data steams has worked for me too. (Phew) What are the possible problems of doing this? |
